I need your ideas!
On starting a company in New York City
On September 25th, 2017, I wrote in a Facebook post that I was starting a company in New York City. 6 months later, I can confirm that that’s the way I’m heading.
“If it’s still in your mind it’s worth taking the risk”
In these last six months though, I’ve hit more walls then I could ever imagine before, but I’m very grateful for every single hit as they all taught me some incredibly valuable lessons. It might sound cliché, but I can assure you it’s been quite a journey…
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you”
So what happened? How am I so sure it’s gonna happen this time? I figured some things out, and so did my parents. For the last year, I woke up every day thinking, “what can I do today to bring me closer to my goals?”. It’s an exercise in gratefulness. And if you do that for a year, you’ll learn some things.
I’ve learned New York City is an essential part of my existence.
I’ve also learned I can actually do something there. Something I wasn’t so sure about 2 years ago. By the connections, I’ve made there, and the feedback they have given me, I’m sure I can make the big city of New York my home.
I’ve learned to blame myself for everything that goes wrong in my life.
I’ve met some of the most amazing people I’ve ever known that respect me and that I respect back. Mutual respect is probably one of the most important values in my life. I can’t function without it.
I’ve gained practical experience in Marketing, Social Media, Coliving, Running a business (long story), Real-Estate, Video Production, Web Design…
“The cost of not following your heart is spending the rest of your life wishing you had”
And a lot more where I would love to talk to you about in person ;) This article isn’t supposed to be long, it’s just to update you on what I’ve been up to. Right now, I’ve been back in Belgium for about a week. Something I swore by not to do this year, but something changed. My parents visited me in New York a few weeks ago, and they offered me the opportunity to start a business in the United States by sponsoring my investor visa. It’s a long and complicated story, but it means that this time, I have a shot to really make it happen in New York.
Writing a business plan is my next step in this process, so if you have any ideas for me, hit me up!
